THE CHOICE OF A WIFE:
THE KING’S DILEMMA
Once upon a time, in a prosperous kingdom, there was a wise king who had a young son, Prince Abubakar. As the prince reached the age of marriage, the king decided it was time for him to choose a wife. Wanting the best for his son and the kingdom, the king devised a test to find the most suitable bride.

The king sent out a proclamation inviting all the eligible young women from the kingdom to the palace. He gave each woman a small seed and instructed them to plant it in a pot, nurture it for six months, and then return to the palace with the plant. The woman who brought the most beautiful and healthy plant would become the prince’s wife.

Among the young women was a humble village girl named Aisha. She was excited and determined to do her best. She planted her seed, watered it, and cared for it diligently. However, despite all her efforts, the seed did not sprout. Heartbroken, Aisha felt she had failed, but she decided to present her empty pot to the king nonetheless, believing honesty was the best policy.

The day arrived for the women to return to the palace with their plants. Many of them brought beautiful, lush plants, each claiming to have nurtured their seeds to full bloom. Aisha, with her empty pot, felt embarrassed but stood quietly at the back.

The king inspected all the plants and finally came to Aisha. Seeing her empty pot, he smiled and called Prince Arjun. “Here is your future wife,” the king announced.

The court was shocked, and the other women murmured in disbelief. The king explained, “Six months ago, I gave each of you boiled seeds that could not possibly grow. Only Aisha had the courage to be honest and present her failure truthfully. This kind of integrity and honesty is the foundation of a strong and trusting marriage.”

Prince Abubakar and Aisha were married and ruled the kingdom with wisdom and honesty.

The moral of the story is that honesty and integrity are crucial qualities in a partner. A relationship built on trust and truth is stronger and more enduring than one built on deceit or superficial qualities.
